COUNSELLING AT THE FOUNDATION

Counselling at the Foundation offers a safe space for persons to be vulnerable, to share their pain, to reflect on their developmental journey, to see their shadow and understand it, to begin the growth process with support and not feel threatened.  It allows for coming out of denial and opening oneself to the truth of one’s being.

The Counsellor works with relational issues, grief and loss issues, stress and anxiety, motivational – all that blocks healthy human development.  Such unblocking facilitates the transformation process.  The Foundation does not do in-depth therapy or psychotherapy and matters related to mental illness.  Counselling is for all (preferably over the age of eighteen (18) who require it regardless of gender, religion or ethnicity.

The Foundation’s Perspective on Counselling stems from the overall purpose of the Foundation – “Healthy Human Development”  - Sr. Paul  stated: “All that the Foundation does – the psychological workshops, the Centering Prayer groups, the counselling are all intended to address the human condition, to soften the cover that blocks connection with the Image of God within us in whose likeness we have been created”.

In addition, she emphasized “We hold that spiritual is an essential dimension of the human person, so our work is primarily psychological/spiritual.  I often speak of these as the two (2) inextricably interwoven strands of the Foundation.  Since our commitment is to transformation not merely behavioural change, we do deep inner work and invite people to set out on the spiritual  journey”.
